This page will familiarize you with instructions for using your FREIGHT FLAG...

Overview
The FREIGHT FLAG cone has been specifically developed for the trucking, warehouse and distribution industries. The three-sided numbered cone attaches to and moves with a given shipment. With specifically selected colors and optic yellow numbered decals, each shipment is highly visible and easy to locate. The FREIGHT FLAG system lends itself to customization and innovation in its application.

Application
FREIGHT FLAGS can be used to identify and track every shipment moved across a loading dock. It's recommended that any shipment staged on the dock require a cone for quick and easy identification.

All shipments left on the dock would have a FREIGHT FLAG number. These shipments could include appointment freight, will call freight, OS&D freight, etc. Multiple cones can be used to identify a shipment of more than one piece.

The supervisor must decide the best location on the shipping documents to mark FREIGHT FLAG color and number. With one color cone being used, it's suggested to use a number enclosed by a circle. With multiple colors, simply add a color abbreviation (for example: O19, or G54):

••• Orange - O
••• Yellow - Y
••• Green - G
••• Red - R
••• Blue - B
••• White - W
••• Black - BL

The FREIGHT FLAG system is a "locating system". Check your order before assigning a number and double check the order when it's retrieved. Remember that once the order has been picked up, the cone can be removed from the shipment and re-used.

Attachment Instructions

Banding Strap Attachment
Each cone has two slots which can be used to anchor it to a shipment that's been banded or secured with straps. Lift the banding strap slightly and slide the cone's slot underneath until it clears the raised portion. Release the strap so it can slide into the slot.

Shrinkwrap Attachment
Each cone has one three-pronged trap for use with shrinkwrapped shipments. Find a flat portion on top of the order that has been shrinkwrapped. Make a four-inch hole in the section of "wrap" approximately four inches from the outside edge. Do not break the outside edge of the wrap. Now bunch the wrap together to form a thin line and lace it under the center prong - the line of wrap should be under all three prongs. To remove, simply pull the cone off the order, breaking the thin portion of the wrap.

Loose Box Attachment
If the shipment doesn't involve banding, strapping or shrinkwrap, the cone may be secured with adhesive tape. Simply place the cone on the highest and most visible point on the shipment. Tear off a piece of adhesive tape and apply to the base of the cone - do not apply over the top of the cone, as this will cover the 2" document holder.
